How to Pack a Backpack Like a Pro, Step by Step
October 23, 2026

The golden rule: weight distribution
Heavy items go close to your back at shoulder height. This keeps the center of gravity and prevents back pain. Light items go at the bottom and the front.
Layers, from bottom to top
- Bottom: sleeping bag, clothes you won't need soon
- Middle, against your back: heavy items, water, food
- Middle, toward the front: clothes, first aid kit
- Top: quick access
- Sides: bottle, map, snacks
Helpful gear
Pouches and dry bags for organization. A compression bag saves 50%. Keep a flashlight and a jacket on top.
