A wheeled backpack, or trolley backpack, is a backpack you can carry on your shoulders or pull on wheels, depending on the route: on your back up stairs and on public transit, on wheels down the long airport corridor. The backpacks on this page are large and suit travel and anyone carrying a laptop and heavy gear: Nexorian Supreme with 50 liters and a padded 16 inch laptop compartment, and Nexa Turbo with 55 liters, a padded compartment for laptops up to 17 inches, quiet wheels and a built-in USB port. Both are made of water resistant Oxford fabric.
Wheeled backpack or suitcase?
A trolley backpack is more flexible: on smooth ground you pull it, and on stairs, sand or cobblestones you lift it onto your back. A suitcase is more comfortable for long distances on wheels and holds more clothes. On the other hand, the wheels and handle add weight and take up room inside: Nexorian Supreme weighs 2.8 kg (6.2 lb), more than a regular backpack. If you fly with a suitcase and only need a bag for the journey itself, a backpack that slides over your suitcase handle may suit you better.
What to check in a trolley backpack
Start with the volume and laptop size: Nexorian Supreme has 50 liters and fits a 16 inch laptop, and Nexa Turbo has 55 liters and fits laptops up to 17 inches. Then comfort on your back, since you'll carry it part of the way: Nexorian Supreme has breathable Air-Cushion straps. Also check that the wheels are quiet, as on Nexa Turbo, and that the fabric is water resistant. Nexorian Supreme measures 53 x 34 x 28 cm (about 20.9 x 13.4 x 11 in) and Nexa Turbo 52 x 34 x 27 cm (about 20.5 x 13.4 x 10.6 in).
A wheeled backpack for school?
A wheeled backpack saves carrying heavy books, but the backpacks on this page are large: 50 and 55 liters, with a laptop compartment. They suit high school and college students and travelers better than young schoolchildren, who are better off with a smaller, lighter bag. If you're buying one for an older student, check that their laptop fits: up to 17 inches in Nexa Turbo and a 16 inch laptop in Nexorian Supreme.
