A USB backpack has a charging port on its side, wired to a power bank you place inside the bag. Plug your phone cable into the port on the outside and your phone charges as you walk, without opening the bag. The bag itself doesn't make power; the charge comes from the power bank, which you usually buy separately. This page has USB backpacks for 15.6 to 17 inch laptops, from 16 to 45 liters, and The Mulhens also has a Type-C charging port.

How a backpack USB port works

Inside the bag a cable connects to a power bank, and on the outside there's a port. Put the power bank in the bag, connect it to the cable, and plug your phone in outside. Roxy's port comes with internal cables, and The Mulhens has USB and Type-C ports with an internal USB cable for the power bank. Quinox Platinum states clearly that the port needs a backup battery.

Power banks and flights

Most airlines require power banks to be in your cabin bag, not in checked luggage. A USB backpack works well for that: the power bank stays in the bag on your back, and your phone charges even in the security line. Before you fly, check with your airline whether there's a limit on power bank capacity.

Which USB backpack to choose

For everyday use, 20 to 22 liter bags like ActiveMax 2.0 Edge, Corona X Xtreme 20L and Ventra ProX 22L, which also has a tablet compartment. For trips and travel there are 32 to 35 liter bags with side pockets for water bottles, like Himalaya 32L and Everest 35L, which also lets you strap gear to its sides. For a 17-inch laptop, look at Gravion 35L, TrailPod Prime 20L and the 40 or 45 liter Quinox Platinum. And for a polished look, Hilot is made of genuine leather.
