A cabin trolley, or 20-inch carry-on suitcase, is the bag that boards the plane with you and fits in the overhead bin. Carry-on size: what dimensions are allowed?
Most airlines limit carry-on bags to a height of about 55 cm (21.7 in). Width and depth vary from airline to airline, and there is also a weight limit, usually 7 to 10 kg (15 to 22 lb). An expanded suitcase can exceed the allowed depth, so fly with the expansion closed. On low-cost airlines the basic fare often includes only a small personal item under the seat, and the trolley is an add-on. Light carry-on: hardside or softside?
The fabric Swiss System weighs 2.2 kg (4.9 lb), and there is also a 20-inch model that weighs just 1.8 kg (4 lb). The Cosmos DLX and Americano, in 600D nylon, weigh 2.5 kg (5.5 lb) and expand by 25%. A hardside suitcase protects what's inside better: the Navigator is made of unbreakable Japanese polypropylene and weighs 2.5 kg, and the Meridian is pure polycarbonate. The Primo 2.0, in liquid-repellent fabric, weighs 2.7 kg (6 lb).
