An RFID-blocking wallet has a layer that blocks the radio waves contactless credit cards use to talk to a reader. While the card is inside the wallet it can't be read wirelessly, and when you take it out you pay as usual. This page has bifold wallets in nappa and Crazy Horse leather, pop-up wallets that hold 6 to 12 cards, slim aluminum wallets, and smart wallets with room for an AirTag or a MagSafe-compatible magnet. Choose by the number of cards, whether you need a bill and coin compartment, and the material you like.
How does an RFID wallet work?
A credit card you can tap to pay contains a chip and an antenna that respond to a nearby reader. An RFID-blocking wallet has a layer that blocks that reading. In the Mattia, Germen and Marco it's an RFID-blocking fabric layer alongside the nappa leather, and in The Dudes Pro the blocking is built into the aluminum frame. To pay, take the card out or pop it out of the mechanism, just like with a regular wallet.
What is a smart wallet?
A smart wallet is usually a wallet with RFID blocking plus an extra feature. The Finder, The Dudes Pro and The Uprising have a dedicated slot for an AirTag, which helps you find the wallet if it's forgotten or lost. The Zayliron ProX has a MagSafe-compatible magnet and a quick card ejector. And wallets with a spring mechanism, like the Element, which holds up to 12 cards, fan the cards out in one move, with no digging through slots.
Leather or aluminum?
Leather wallets, like the Exoris with 9 card slots and the Skorionyx Elite in Crazy Horse leather, hold bills too and suit everyday use. Aluminum wallets, like the Pyvron and Polaryx Prime, are slim, rigid and water-resistant, and work mainly for cards. Wallets like the Marvell and Element combine PU leather with aluminum. Wipe genuine leather with a dry cloth and condition it with leather cream every few months.
Frequently asked questions
What is an RFID wallet?
A wallet with a layer that blocks wireless reading of contactless credit cards. While a card is inside, a reader held close to it can't read it, and when you take the card out you pay as usual.
Is an RFID wallet an anti-theft wallet?
It protects your cards from wireless reading while they're inside the wallet, but it doesn't stop the wallet itself from being stolen. For that, a slim front-pocket wallet like the Skorionyx Elite helps, or a wallet with room for an AirTag, like the Finder and The Uprising, which helps you find it if it's lost.
What is a smart wallet?
Usually a wallet with RFID blocking plus an extra: an AirTag slot, like the Finder, a MagSafe-compatible magnet, like the Zayliron ProX, or a push-button quick card ejector, like the Slide and the pop-up wallets.
Can I tap to pay without taking the card out of an RFID wallet?
No, because the blocking works on every reader, including the payment terminal. Take the card out or pop it out of the mechanism and pay as usual.
How many cards fit in an RFID wallet?
It depends on the model: pop-up wallets hold 6 to 12 cards, and the nappa leather bifolds Mattia and Germen have 16 and 17 card slots.
Do you have RFID wallets for women?
Yes. Slim wallets like the Popup, Slim Card Case v2 and The Classic Popup suit women too, and all have RFID blocking and a card ejector.
