Air Haifa to Thessaloniki and Ramon: What's Free, What Bags Cost
November 2, 20265 min read
On Air Haifa, the basic fare includes only a small personal item: a soft bag with no wheels, up to 40x30x20 cm and 5 kg. A cabin trolley up to 55x40x25 cm and 8 kg, and a checked suitcase up to 20 kg, both cost extra. To Greece that is $43 for the trolley and $75 for the suitcase, each way, per passenger.

Two new Air Haifa routes started at the end of October: Haifa to Thessaloniki, twice a week on Sundays and Thursdays, and Ben Gurion to Ramon, twice a day with a third daily flight planned during November. If you are booking one of them for the first time, decide on your bag before you pay, because adding it at the airport costs more.
What is free and what costs extra on Air Haifa?
These are the rules and prices on the airline's baggage page as of November 2, 2026. Prices are one way, per passenger, when added up to 4 hours before departure, and the airline says they vary by destination and flight.
| What you bring | Size | Weight | Where it goes | Greece, Bulgaria | Cyprus |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small personal item | 40x30x20 cm | 5 kg | Under the seat | Free | Free |
| Cabin trolley | 55x40x25 cm including wheels and handles | 8 kg | Overhead bin | $43 | $32 |
| Checked suitcase | 190 cm, all three dimensions added up | 20 kg | Hold | $75 | $55 |
On flights to Eilat the price varies and shows only during booking, so compare it before you decide whether you need a trolley at all. Personal item versus trolley is the same question on every low-cost airline, and we cover it in does a trolley count as baggage.
Which bag counts as the free personal item?
This is the small trap in the cheap fare. The free item has to be soft, with no wheels, like a shoulder bag, a backpack or a small tote. So even a very small wheeled cabin case does not count as a personal item, even if it fits the size.
A backpack of 10 to 16 liters is usually the comfortable choice. Our The Lopez, for example, measures 37x28x12 cm and weighs 400 grams, which leaves 4.6 kg for what goes inside. Measure it packed and full, because a soft bag swells once you stuff it. More options are on our flight backpacks page.
How much fits in an 8 kg trolley?
The weight includes the trolley itself, so its empty weight matters almost as much as its size. Our Navigator 20 inch measures 55x36x23 cm with the wheels and weighs 2.5 kg, which leaves 5.5 kg for clothes and gear. By the measurements in our catalog, other 20 inch models also meet the limit, and you will find them on the carry-on suitcases page.
Watch out with expandable cases. The limit is 25 cm deep, and a model that meets it closed can go past it once the expansion is open. On this flight, keep the expansion zipped.
Two people: a trolley each or one shared suitcase?
On a round trip to Greece, at the prices above, two trolleys cost $172 and give you up to 16 kg. One shared suitcase costs $150 and gives you up to 20 kg. If you don't need your things during the flight and don't mind waiting at the carousel, you get more weight for less money. If you want to walk straight out into the city, you pay the difference for that.
There is a middle way too. You can send a pre-booked trolley to the hold and pay at the check-in desk only the difference between a trolley and a suitcase. That helps when your bag turns out heavier than planned.
Checked suitcase: why 20 kg is the real limit
190 cm is a generous size limit. For comparison, many airlines stop at 158 cm, and even our 32 inch suitcases, at 167 to 177 cm, fit within it. What will stop you is the weight: 20 kg, not the 23 kg you get on many other airlines. A big suitcase passes that quickly, especially if you shop in Thessaloniki before flying back.
So choose a light suitcase rather than the largest one. The Swiss Digital Feather Light 26 inch weighs 2.1 kg, which leaves almost 18 kg for your things. Three more things to know in advance:
- One suitcase per passenger. The airline does not accept more than one suitcase per person in the hold.
- Over 30 kg does not fly. A suitcase that heavy is not accepted. The baggage page publishes no price for going over between 20 and 30 kg, so weigh it at home. If you need it, we have a guide to overweight fees.
- No sports equipment. Bikes, ski gear, snowboards and surfboards are on the list of items that cannot go in the hold.
What to pack for Thessaloniki and for Ramon
The Thessaloniki schedule sets up a short trip: Sunday to Thursday is four nights, and Thursday to Sunday is three. For a break like that without shopping, a trolley is enough for most people. If you are torn between a trolley and a soft bag, read how many liters you need for a weekend.
The Ben Gurion to Ramon flights leave from Terminal 1. For a short Eilat break a small backpack can be enough, and that is how the ticket stays truly cheap. If you are bringing beach gear and clothes for a few days, check the trolley price before you book.
What if your suitcase is damaged or doesn't arrive?
Air Haifa asks you to go straight to its service team in the baggage hall, before you leave the terminal, and get a damage report or a delayed baggage report. If you did not manage to report a delayed bag, you can also do it online through WorldTracer. If one of our suitcases was damaged on a flight, send the report for review through our damage report page.

Frequently asked questions
Does a backpack count as the free personal item on Air Haifa?
Yes, as long as it is soft, has no wheels, measures up to 40x30x20 cm and weighs up to 5 kg. It has to fit under the seat in front of you. Anything bigger counts as paid baggage.
When should I add a trolley or a suitcase?
