What is 11.11, and why this date
According to Wikipedia, Singles' Day began in 1993 at Nanjing University in China, as a day single students celebrated for themselves. The date was chosen for its four 1s, which stand for four people on their own. In 2009 Alibaba turned it into a day of online shopping discounts, and it has since grown into the largest shopping day in the world, bigger than Black Friday.
That means on one day you will see the same suitcase, or one that looks just like it, at many prices and on very different terms.
The shopping calendar for the rest of the year
| Event | Date | Day |
|---|---|---|
| 11.11, Singles' Day | November 11 | Wednesday |
| Black Friday | November 27 | Friday |
| Cyber Monday | November 30 | Monday |
Every store decides for itself how long its sale lasts. Some start a few days early and some keep going after, so always check the end date shown next to the deal.
Buying a suitcase online? Five things to check before you pay
- Size in centimeters, wheels and handles included. "20 inch" is the name of a size, not a measurement. Airlines measure the whole suitcase, wheels and handle included. If the product page shows only inches, or only the size of the body, you can't know whether it will pass at the gate. El Al, for example, allows up to 56x45x25 cm and up to 8 kg in the cabin (checked in September 2026).
- Empty weight. Every kilo of suitcase is a kilo less of clothes. With an 8 kg cabin limit, the difference between a 2.2 kg suitcase and a 3.5 kg one is more than a kilo of gear.
- When it will arrive. If you are flying in December, you want the suitcase home with enough time to check it, and to exchange it if the size is wrong. Check the delivery date before you pay, not after.
- Warranty, and who repairs it. Wheels, handles and zippers are the parts that work hardest on a suitcase. Ask what the warranty covers and for how long, and who does the repairs. Every maker has its own wheel housing, axle and screws, so even a good repair shop can't always find a part for a suitcase bought elsewhere.
- Returns and exchanges. Check the policy, the time window, and who pays to ship it back. With a large suitcase, find out in advance what sending it back would cost.
How to read suitcase sizes: from inches to centimeters
When you compare suitcases from different stores, the size in inches only points you in a direction. This is how the sizes look in our range, from each model's specs, wheels included:
| Size | Height | Volume | Empty weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 inch | 49 to 55 cm | 35 to 50 liters | 2.2 to 3 kg for most models |
| 24 inch | 64 to 68 cm | 58 to 98 liters | 2.6 to 4.2 kg |
| 28 inch | 73 to 78 cm | 91 to 121 liters | 3 to 5.5 kg |
| 32 inch | 82 to 90 cm | 120 to 153 liters | 3.8 to 6 kg |
So a suitcase called "28 inch" can be 73 cm tall or 78, and hold 91 liters or 121. That gap decides how easy it is to stay under the common 23 kg limit for a checked bag. And on our 32 inch suitcases, length, width and height together go over the 158 cm many airlines set for a standard checked bag. Not sure which size you need? Our guide to every suitcase size works it out by the number of days and travelers.
Three examples by type of trip
If you mostly fly with a carry-on, look at the Swiss System in 20 inch: 55x36x21 cm with the wheels and 2.2 kg, inside El Al's cabin limit. A small family away for a week gets a carry-on and a checked suitcase together in the Navigator set of 20 and 24 inch. And if you need a lot of room, the Cosmos DLX in 28 inch is an expandable suitcase with 120 liters. You'll find every model in our suitcases collection.
Missed 11.11? Black Friday and Cyber Monday come at the end of the month, and before them it's worth going over what to check before buying a suitcase on Black Friday.
Frequently asked questions
When is 11.11 in 2026?
Singles' Day 2026 falls on Wednesday, November 11, 2026. Every store decides how long its own sale lasts, and some start a few days early or keep going after, so check the end date next to each deal.
What is the difference between 11.11 and Black Friday?
11.11 started in China as a day for singles and became a day of online shopping discounts led by large online marketplaces. Black Friday is the American sale day after Thanksgiving, and this year it falls on Friday, November 27.
How do I know if a suitcase bought online will pass as a carry-on?
Compare the outside measurements, wheels and handle included, with your airline's limit, not just the size in inches. If the store gives only the body size, or only "20 inch", you can't know for sure. Check the empty weight against the cabin weight limit too.
Is a bigger suitcase always better value on a sale day?
Not always. A bigger suitcase weighs more empty, it's easy to fill it past the 23 kg checked bag limit, and many 32 inch suitcases go over the 158 cm total that many airlines allow for a standard checked bag. Buy the size your trips need.
