A 15.6 Inch Laptop Bag for Women: Choosing Size, Carry and Style

October 28, 2026

For a 15.6 inch laptop, choose a bag whose laptop compartment is rated "up to 15.6" or "up to 16 inch", and check the compartment's measurements against the laptop itself. Then choose how you carry it: a backpack if you walk a lot or take public transport, a work bag with a shoulder strap for meetings and driving, or a padded sleeve if you want to keep using your own handbag.

How to know the laptop will really fit

15.6 inches is the diagonal of the screen, about 39.6 cm, not the width of the laptop. So the number alone isn't enough. Close the laptop, measure its width, depth and thickness, and compare them with the compartment measurements on the product page. Not sure what size your laptop is? We explained how to check your laptop's size in inches in a few simple ways.

Two examples from our catalog: in the large size of the Adelaide Pro backpack the compartment fits a laptop up to 36.5×26.2 cm and up to 2.5 cm thick, and in The Rolvik the compartment fits a laptop up to 15.6 inch, 36×26 cm. If your laptop is especially thick, like a gaming laptop, measure the thickness too.

On our site laptops are grouped into three size classes: 13.3 to 14 inch, 15.6 to 16 inch, and 17 inch. A bag built for a 14 inch laptop usually won't be enough for a 15.6, and a bag for a 17 inch laptop leaves a smaller one sliding around inside. You'll find every bag in the right class among laptop bags for 15.6 to 16 inch screens and backpacks for 15.6 to 16 inch screens.

Backpack, work bag or sleeve: what suits your day

A laptop this size adds weight to everything already in the bag, so how you carry it matters as much as the design. The first question is how you get to work or class:

Bag typeGood forExample from our catalogWeight per the product page
Laptop backpackWalking, trains and buses, a long day with a laptop, a bottle and lunchAdelaide Pro, large size 43×30×13 cm, about 17 liters480 g
Expandable backpackA normal workday and a short work tripAurora, 42×29×12 cm, about 15 liters with an expansion zipper780 g
Work bag with a handle and shoulder strapMeetings, the office, drivingStratix Platinum, 45×30×9 cm, about 10 liters, for laptops up to 16 inch750 g
Padded sleeve inside a handbagAnyone who already has a tote or shoulder bag she lovesLumina, 15 to 16 inch size 40×36×4 cm0.51 kg

A backpack spreads the weight over both shoulders, so it's the comfortable choice when you walk a lot with a laptop. A work bag looks more formal and makes it easy to pull the laptop out in a meeting, but all the weight goes on one shoulder. Torn between the two? We compared a shoulder bag and a backpack for work by the kind of day you have.

How many liters does a 15.6 inch laptop backpack need

A good reference point is the large Adelaide Pro: according to its product page, its main compartment, about 17 liters, holds a laptop, a tablet, an A4 magazine, a phone and a folding umbrella. For a normal day at work or school with a laptop, a charger and a bottle, around 15 to 18 liters is usually enough. If you add gym clothes or a big lunch box you'll want more room, or an expandable bag like Aurora that opens up when you need it and stays slim on an ordinary day.

A bigger bag isn't automatically better: it weighs more empty, and we usually fill it to the top.

What about a tote bag?

Many women want to keep carrying their tote on laptop days too. The simple solution is a padded sleeve: the laptop goes into the sleeve, and the sleeve into the bag. The sleeve protects the laptop from scratches and from the keys and bottle in your bag. The Lumina sleeve in the 15 to 16 inch size is 40 cm wide, so make sure the opening of your bag is at least that wide. It's made of water-repellent PU leather.

Just remember that a tote is carried on one shoulder. On a day with a lot of walking, the laptop and sleeve together start to feel heavy sooner than in a backpack.

Small details that make a difference on a workday

  • A hidden pocket on the back: a zip pocket that sits against your body when the bag is on your back, for your phone, wallet and passport. Adelaide Pro, Aurora and The Rolvik all have one.
  • A luggage strap: a strap on the back of the bag that slides over the trolley handle, so at the airport the bag rides on your suitcase instead of your shoulders. Adelaide Pro and The Rolvik have one.
  • A tablet sleeve: if you also carry a tablet you'll want a separate slot. The Rolvik has a sleeve for a tablet up to 11 inch next to the laptop compartment.
  • Side pockets: for a bottle or an umbrella, so they don't sit next to the laptop. Adelaide Pro has two.
  • Water-repellent fabric: protects from light rain and splashes and wipes clean with a damp cloth. It isn't a waterproof bag, so in heavy rain it's better not to leave it outside.

Look and color: what works for the office

A laptop bag is something you carry every day, so it has to go with your clothes too. Dark shades like black and dark gray hide dirt and suit any workplace. If you want something less ordinary, there are color combinations: Adelaide Pro also comes in peach with gray or with brown, and Stratix Platinum also in blue and khaki. With light colors it's worth choosing a fabric that wipes clean, because an everyday bag touches a lot of surfaces.

A checklist before you order

  1. You measured your laptop, and the bag's compartment is bigger in width, depth and thickness.
  2. You chose how to carry it by your commute: a backpack for walking and public transport, a shoulder bag for the car and meetings.
  3. You checked the empty weight of the bag on the product page.
  4. There's a separate pocket for your phone and wallet, and room for a bottle away from the laptop.

Frequently asked questions

Will a 16 inch laptop fit in a 15.6 inch bag?

It depends on the laptop's measurements, not the number. On our site 15.6 and 16 inch are in the same size class, but it's still worth comparing your laptop's width, depth and thickness with the compartment measurements on the product page. If the laptop is bigger than the compartment by even a centimeter, it won't fit comfortably.

Can I put a 15.6 inch laptop in a regular tote bag?

Yes, if you put it in a padded sleeve first. That way the laptop doesn't get scratched or knocked by your keys and bottle. Note that the sleeve itself is wider than the laptop: the Lumina sleeve in the 15 to 16 inch size is 40 cm wide, so the opening of your bag needs to be at least that wide.

Does a laptop backpack look professional enough for meetings?

A backpack in a solid color with clean lines suits most workplaces today. If you have a lot of client meetings, or you drive to work, a work bag with a handle and shoulder strap like Stratix Platinum looks more formal and makes it easy to take the laptop out at the table.

Are the bags rain resistant?

All the bags mentioned here are made of water-repellent fabric or material, which protects the contents from light rain and splashes and wipes clean. They aren't waterproof, so in heavy rain or if the bag stands in a puddle, take the laptop out or put it in a sleeve.

What is the warranty on a laptop bag?

Bags and backpacks come with a 12 month warranty on all components, unless the product page says otherwise. It covers broken zipper pulls, handles and clips, seams and manufacturing defects. Normal wear and cosmetic damage aren't included.
