Cameras and lenses need different protection than clothes and notebooks. A camera backpack has a padded compartment for photo gear, with removable padded dividers that create spaces for the camera body and lenses so nothing knocks together on the way. The Lensvik and The Aperon also have a sleeve for a laptop up to 15.6 inches, side straps for carrying a tripod and a strap that slides over your suitcase handle. The Lensvik is larger, 38 liters, with full rear opening, and the 31 liter The Aperon also opens from a side door for quick access to the camera.

The Lensvik or The Aperon

The Lensvik is a 38 liter bag, 49 x 35 x 22 cm (19.3 x 13.8 x 8.7 in), weighing 1.63 kg (3.6 lb). Its full rear opening gives access to all your gear, the flap closes with two metal buckles, and YKK zippers are used at every closure. The Aperon is smaller and lighter, 31 liters, 45 x 34 x 20 cm and 1.33 kg (2.9 lb), with a side door for quick camera access, a rear-access laptop compartment and a hidden pocket for valuables.

Setting up the camera compartment

The padded dividers are removable, so you can arrange them around your gear: a space for the camera body with a lens attached, and compartments for extra lenses, batteries and cards. Each item should sit snugly in its own space so it does not shift as you walk. The tripod straps to the outside with the side straps, and the laptop goes in its own compartment.

Shooting on trips and flying

The Lensvik and The Aperon both have a trolley strap that slides over a suitcase handle, so at the airport the bag rides on your suitcase. Both have a back with a ventilation channel, and The Lensvik also has a chest strap. When flying, keep your camera and lenses with you in the cabin, so check the bag's dimensions against your airline's carry-on limits.

How do I carry a tripod?
