A rolltop backpack closes at the top by rolling: you roll down the top of the bag and fasten it with a buckle. When you need more room you roll it less and the bag stands taller, and when it's half empty you roll it more and it stays compact. The roll also seals the top opening against rain. That's how the Bergamo grows from 27 to 35 liters, and the Cremona, in genuine cowhide, from 28 to 39 liters. For the city there are light models like the 790 g The Rolvik and the 550 g Flex Rolltop, and for a large laptop up to 17.3 inches there's the Kynthera Edge with side access to the laptop compartment.
How a rolltop closure works
The top of the bag has a long collar. You fold it down, roll it and fasten the buckle, and the number of rolls sets the bag's height. The Rolvik also has a magnetic closure for instant access to the main compartment and a quick-release buckle, and the Kynthera Edge has quick side access to the laptop compartment, so you don't have to unroll the top every time.
Rolltops for the city, work and the outdoors
For the city and work, The Rolvik offers 18 liters with a compartment for laptops up to 15.6 inches and a tablet sleeve, and the Flex Rolltop fits laptops up to 16 inches and works as carry-on. The Bergamo and Cremona add spring-loaded straps that take load off your shoulders, plus a laptop compartment up to 16 inches. For the outdoors there's the Larnyxor Xtreme, an expandable 60-liter pack with padded shoulder and hip straps and external attachment points.
